Powerful Conversation & Listening Skills

 

Through the use of experiential activities, multimedia, and student facilitations, this course provides skill training for a variety of interpersonal communication situations.  

Part of the class material is based on the best selling book “Crucial Conversations”. A crucial conversation is a discussion between two or more people where stakes are high, opinions vary, and emotions run strong. 

Another key component of this class provides training in active listening.  Active listeners learn to hear what people are really saying. A good way to develop these listening skills is to use the HEAR, UNDERSTAND, INTERPRET and PROCESS continuous improvement model.

Coaching Skills

 

Coaching is a proven method that helps leaders move forward.  In this course, leaders will learn the difference between coaching and other approaches like consulting and counseling.   Special emphasis is placed on how to coach those you supervise.  Leaders will also learn about the goals of coaching, how to ask powerful questions, discovery listening, the five “R’s” of coaching, and how to coach groups as well as individuals.  Through class discussion and practice with others, leaders will gain practical coaching skills that can be immediately implemented.
